The first feeding center/dental clinic/church opened by LaViña in Mazatlan was in the colonia Valles del Ejido in 1997. Construction on a new church and feeding center was started a year later, and the first service was held in 1999.
Church services are held every Sunday afternoon, and Bible stuidies are held every Wednesday afternoon. Bible classes for kids and kid’s feedings are also held on Saturday morning. Thursday night is movie night in the colonia. A movie is projected onto a big screen and people are invited to come hang out, relax, and enjoy a movie. The leaders of this colonia are Juan Carlos and Adriana.
There is a part-time dental clinic, staffed by a national dentist (Dr. Bricia Lizarraga), at the Valles del Ejido facility where patients can be seen each week, Mondays from 9-10 A.M. and Saturdays from 2-4 P.M. Patients can receive dental work for the low cost of 60 pesos (about $5 US), assuring affordable dentistry and quality care to the poor
