Villa Union could be considered a suburb of Mazatlan, located on the south end past the airport. The people of Villa Union are generally more traditional than Mazatlecans. Kids in the town drool over their neighbor’s fancy new horse instead of fancy new car.
The church in Villa Union is still fairly new, and construction has not been 100% completed. Our prayers requesting the Lord to raise up leadership in Villa Union have been answered; the church is now led by a dedicated young woman named Karina. The church has a feeding center every Saturday for the children of the neighborhood, as well as a Sunday service. Please pray for the Lord to raise up new leadership in Villa Union. Through outside circumstances, the church has lost two pastors in the six years of its existence.
The church has seen people come to know Jesus in amazing ways. One truck driver was merely passing through the town, but felt compelled to stop by the Sunday service. Once inside, he immediately felt God’s presence. After the service was over, he asked the church members to pray for him, and he accepted Jesus into his heart. Another man wanted to be baptized, and the entire church went to the river to watch him dedicate his life to the Lord. It didn’t even matter that the man was 6 feet tall being dunked in about 2 ½ feet of water! Another man came to a medical outreach. A mission team from Indiana prayed for a cataract in the man’s eye, which got smaller and smaller and then totally disappeared while they were praying! He also asked Jesus into his heart. Several women found renewed excitement and passion for their faith through an Alpha course in the spring of 2008. How encouraging to see God move even when circumstances are not ideal!
